At first I thought this was kind of outrageous but when I found out that there was MORE gold in Melbourne, all that changed.

Before we got to Ballarat, Mother stopped at a drink tent. After two hours of sitting and looking left and right, Mother came out of the tent with a knife and started walking back to the dock. So Father and I tried to stop her by carrying her back but mother resisted and kicked Father in the groin. Father then started swaring unnecessarily. Out of sheer luck a carriage was rolling towards the mines so we quikly chucked mother on but by the time we did that we were left behind
